Mason Greenwood is set to look for offers in Turkey or Italy after mutually agreeing with Manchester United against his reintegration into the first team following the club's internal investigation.
The 21-year-old was suspended 18 months ago after he was arrested on charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault, but these were dropped in February of this year by the Crown Prosecution Services after the withdrawal of 'key witnesses'.
Man United subsequently opened their own internal investigation into the forward, who has played at the club since the age of seven, to decide whether Greenwood could be brought back into Erik ten Hag's squad.
The club had come under fire in recent weeks after it was reported that chief executive Richard Arnold had prepared to announce the players return on August 4, with backlash from fans and supporters' groups seemingly forcing the club into a U-turn.
Mail Sport understands final details are still being arranged as to whether the player will leave on loan, or have his contract settled, but he will not feature for United again.
The club sharing a statement that the two parties 'mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to (recommence his career) away from Old Trafford' and vowing to work with the player to achieve that outcome.
The Red Devils have previously mulled loan moves for the player ahead of this summer's transfer window, with Serie A sides or Turkish Super Lig teams the most likely options.
Greenwood is thought to have been pitched as a makeweight during talks over the securing of striker Rasmus Hojlund's services from Atalanta, but the club later opted to move for the player in a £72million move ahead of the team's final pre-season friendly.
United also received offers from clubs in Turkey, with a number of sides making bids towards the end of the Turkish Super Lig's extended transfer window in March.
Whilst, as per Mail Sport's Jack Gaughan, there has been talk of Italy as a potential destination alongside Turkey, the proliferation of American-owned clubs in the Italian topflight could rule out a move to a larger outfit, such as AC Milan, Rome, Atalanta, and Fiorentina, all have American, or part-American ownership.
Whilst unable to train at Carrington during his suspension, Greenwood has been training privately in a bid to prepare for playing time in the future.
He has been pictured in private training session in Manchester as recently as early August, and in July, travelled to Dubai to boost his preparations in a session that included former team-mate Anthony Elanga, and Udinese defender James Abankwah.
