The Red Devils are desperate for fresh blood in Midfield
Manchester United have joined Bayern Munich and Saudi Arabian sides in the hunt for 30-year-old midfielder Marco Verratti this summer as they look to strengthen their ranks before the end of the transfer window, it has been claimed.
The Red Devils are in desperate need of midfield reinforcements, a fact that was fully on show as they fell to a dismal 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon. Having let Fred leave the club, and with Scott McTominay seemingly frozen out by Erik ten Hag, they have no obvious depth following injury to youngster Kobbie Mainoo in pre-season.
United have long held an interest in Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, but a deal is yet to have been discussed and there is interest from other clubs including Liverpool in the Moroccan.
Now, L'Equipe report that Ten Hag's side have instead changed their top target and are now among several clubs chasing 30-year-old Marco Verratti, who has been told that he can leave French champions Paris Saint Germain this summer.
The Italian was left out of PSG's squad to face Toulouse on Saturday and is thought to have an agreement to join Al Ahli in place, though the two clubs have not agreed a fee.
That uncertainty could allow other clubs to pounce, and it is added that both United and Bayern Munich are keen on the midfielder this summer, though PSG are thought to be demanding in excess of £50m to let him leave.
It is added that even at this hefty price, a move to Manchester United 'cannot be ruled out' in what would be Ten Hag's fourth signing of the summer, though signing another ageing star may not be the best investment for the longer term with Casemiro already the wrong side of 30.
