The English Premier League started on a great note for Defending Champions Man City, but the story isn't same with Tottenham and Liverpool after their first 90 minute of season 2023/24.
Tottenham Hotspur's Romero scored Spurs' first goal of the season just 11 minutes into the game against Brentford on away soil. Just about 15 minutes after the opening goal, Mbeumo levelled from the Penalty spot to keep the game floating for Brentford. Surprisingly, Wissa doubled Brentford's lead in the 36th minute to make it 2-1 for the home side. Just before the end of the half, Emerson Royal made it 2-2 without Harry Kane for Tottenham Hotspur as both sides played out a Goalless second half.
Chelsea were at home in Stamford Bridge playing their first competitive game of the season against Liverpool that wanted to start the season on a great note. Liverpool's Diaz launched the first missile in the 18th minute to put the Reds ahead in a hostile environment. Liverpool's Salah had grabbed another in the 29th minute but the goal was disallowed for offside. However, Chelsea's Disasi levelled in the 37th minute from a corner that wasn't cleared to make it 1-1 but as well got another ruled out after the VAR check, 2 minutes after. First half ended 1 all. Finally, there were no goals for both sides in the second half, making the game end in stalemate.
Chelsea and Liverpool shared the points at Stamford Bridge while Brentford also had a point against Tottenham Hotspur in their opening game. Currently, Newcastle is leading the English Premier League with goals after winning their first game as Man City, Arsenal and Brighton.
