South Korea star Son Heung-Min Appointed New Tottenham Hotspurs Captain

Tottenham Hotspurs will have a new skipper in the person of Son Heung-Min, following confirmation by manager Ange Postecoglou.

The 31-year-old attacker has a wealth of captaincy experience at international level with South Korea, for whom he has 111 caps.

Former captain Hugo Lloris is set to depart after eleven years at the club while co-captain Harry Kane who is England's skipper, has left for Bundesliga side Bayern Munich.

The club and new head coach Ange Postecoglou have opted for Son to take on the role, while summer signing from Leicester City James Maddison and defender Cristian Romero will be vice-captains.

The trio are seen as good characters with an optimism they will now bring an improved spirit and help the club achieve progress and success.

Postecoglou had talked up Son's credentials during the club's pre-season tour.

"I'm looking forward to working with him," Postecoglou said. "He's another one that I think shows real leadership qualities.

"I look at him and he's pretty much a conduit for the whole squad. He mixes in all groups. I don't think it's just because he's popular. What he's done in the game he has a certain standing in the game.

"It's good to see that influence on the group. He's got a massive influence on the group which doesn't surprise me because I know he's a leader for his nation and he's been an icon for his nation for a long time.

"He carries that really well for someone who has been in the spotlight for that long. He has enormous respect among the players."

Tottenham kick off their 2023/2024 Premier League campaign against Brentford on Sunday.
