Manchester United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Bayern Munich's Leon Goretzka.
The German midfielder has been on the Red Devils' radar as Erik ten Hag looks to improve his side, with their striker dilemma almost resolved.
2022 World Cup star Sofyan Amrabat is another midfielder being targeted by Man United, with current star Fred likely to leave the club.
But it's possible five-time Bundesliga champion and Champions League winner Goretzka could still come to Old Trafford this summer, too, thanks to a development at Bayern.
According to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg, Man United never lost their focus on the 28-year-old is still and is on the club's transfer wish list.
He also reports Goretzka wanted to stay at Bayern this summer.
However, the last ten days of pre-season have shown that he won't be a starter under Thomas Tuchel for now.
Tuchel is focusing on utilising Joshua Kimmich and Konrad Laimer and wants a new 'holding six' in what has been described as a 'difficult situation' for Goretzka.
As a result, Ten Hag and co have been handed the golden opportunity to sign him and get him to play a role in his side's new look midfield alongside summer arrival Mason Mount.
Plettenberg also says the midfielder is still a dream target for West Ham, who are yet to sign any senior players this summer.
Goretzka made 40 appearances for the Bundesliga champions last season in all competitions and currently has three years left on his Bayern deal, with his contract running out in June 2026.
