The Super Falcons of Nigeria and the Irish women's team will play their final 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup group stage match on Monday at Suncorp Stadium on Monday. The Nigeria Women's team currently leads Group B with four points, and will look to advance to the knockout stages of the Women's World Cup 2023 with a win in his clash. However, they are not likely to have it easy, as Ireland will be desperate to bow out in style after being eliminated.
* Here are three reasons why Nigeria could lose to Ireland on Monday:
1. Already Eliminated Ireland Will Be Determined to End Their Campaign With A Win
The debutant Ireland women's team may have been eliminated, but they may be proud of their performances. Losing 1-0 to Australia and 2-1 to Canada, two of the tournament's top teams, isn't that horrible in my opinion, and their performance clearly distinguishes them as a difficult opponent to confront. They will undoubtedly want to end their campaign on a high note by winning this game. To avoid an upset in this game, the Nigeria women's team would have to be extremely cautious.
2. Ireland Has A Strong Record Against African Teams
Given Ireland's track record versus African opponents, they shouldn't be underrated. Records show that they have previously met Zimbabwe and Morocco and won easily over both of these African nations. This bodes well of them for their upcoming game against Nigeria. They are not to be toyed with as they have never lost to an African country.
3. Randy Waldrum Could Be Tempted To Rest Some Of His Players
Randy's team is now leading the group and knows that a draw against Ireland is all that is required. In this sense, he may be tempted to rest his top players and bring in fresh legs, but this can backfire.
To advance to the knockout stage, Nigeria presently needs at least a draw against Ireland. A loss might be problematic for them because the Super Falcons would be leaving the tournament if Nigeria lost their final match by a score of three goals and Australia defeated Canada by one goal.
If Australia defeats Canada by a goal and Nigeria loses by a two-goal margin, one of Nigeria or Canada will be eliminated in accordance with the following rules:
