Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell has told the club' boss, Mauricio Pochettino that he wants to be the next captain at Stamford Bridge.
That leadership position has been made vacant by the departure of most of the senior players, including former captain Cesar Azpilicueta.
Pochettino is yet to select Azpilicueta's replacement after the Spaniard left for Atletico Madrid.
Reece James is the favourite to be handed the armband, having donned it in a recent friendly with Newcastle.
Thiago Silva, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Raheem Sterling and Enzo Fernandez are also under consideration for the position.
But Chilwell has declared his interest to take up from where Azpilicueta stopped
"Yeah. I would love to be captain. I'm sure you've had that answer off a few of the players," he told the club's official website as quoted by Metro.
"Of course, Chelsea Football Club, I'd love to be captain.
"Whether I get it or not, it's not going to take away from my role."
