Following numerous complaints from the public, especially the youth, regarding alleged indiscriminate harassment, illegal phone, palmtop, and laptop checks, as well as extortion by Police Officers, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde, has issued a stern warning. He directed Police Officers assigned to patrol and guard duties to immediately stop harassing members of the public and conducting unwarranted phone checks. He emphasized that any officer found engaging in such unprofessional behavior would face disciplinary action.

During a meeting held at the Command headquarters in Owerri on July 21, the Commissioner of Police discussed the issue with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Team Commanders, urging them to ensure their subordinates adhere to the highest standards of professionalism. He emphasized the need to protect the rights of all citizens and conduct their lawful duties without any hint of vindictiveness.

The Command's spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, further stated that in case of distress or harassment by any member of the Force, citizens are encouraged to immediately report to the Command's emergency control room, CP Monitoring unit, or IGP X-Squad via the provided phone lines: 08034773600, 08098880197, 08148024755, or 08103341610.
