Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is ready to be ruthless in this summer's transfer window.
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is ready to sell Alex Telles this summer. It was previously revealed the Dutchman had been 'particularly unimpressed' with the Brazil international's performance in a 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace last year. And it'll be interesting to see what happens with the left-back, who spent last term on loan at Sevilla.
Ten Hag was in attendance in May 2022 as United lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, in a match that was overseen by Ralf Rangnick.
And it was revealed by journalist Sam Pilger at the time that the Dutchman had been 'particularly unimpressed' by the performance of Telles.
"My spies in the Crystal Palace directors box report Erik ten Hag has been shaking his head a lot and not happy," he said, "Particularly unimpressed with Alex Telles."
Telles was indeed dreadful that day as United slumped to defeat.
United scouted a variety of different left-backs in 2020, back when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ruled the roost at the club.
The Norwegian wanted somebody to provide competition for Luke Shaw, with Marcos Rojo sold.
And Telles arrived from Porto, having been a key player for the Portuguese giants during his spell there.
Telles' time at United started well enough, with the 30-year-old shining in a 2-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes.
But that would be as good as it got.
Telles failed to live up to expectations at United and made just 50 appearances for the club in two years.
Yet while he's open to a new challenge elsewhere, the Brazilian has now confessed he'd never join Benfica due to his Porto past.
"I have an opinion about this," he told The Denilson Show when asked if he'd join Porto's fierce rivals.
"Going back to that subject I told you about leaving a legacy at the club.
"When you play for a club and leave a legacy, leave a good image, fought so hard to play and leave a good image... I, Alex, would not play for the rival, for example.
"Because, for example, I made history at Porto, everyone likes me there.
"There's no way to play for Benfica, you know?"
Telles isn't the only player who could leave United this summer.
The club are open to offloading Eric Bailly, with the Ivory Coast international spending last season on loan at Marseille.
Uncertainty surrounds midfielders Fred and Donny van de Beek, while Scott McTominay is a target for West Ham.
Jadon Sancho has been linked with Tottenham, having failed to shine ever since his move from Borussia Dortmund in 2021.
Harry Maguire may be stripped of the captaincy before being shown the door, with Ten Hag open to cutting the England international loose.
And Anthony Martial's future is up in the air as well.
