Private security companies hired by NNPC Ltd. have successfully intercepted a vessel carrying a sizable volume of stolen crude oil in a big operation against crude oil theft.
Garba Deen Muhammad, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., revealed that the MT TURA II, which is owned by HOLAB MARITIME SERVICES LIMITED, was stopped while travelling to Cameroon in a statement to the public.
According to preliminary investigations, the crude oil onboard the ship was unlawfully obtained from an offshore well jacket in the Nigerian state of Ondo.

The finding causes grave worry over the scope of illicit activity involving crude oil that has been stolen.
An important victory in the struggle against crude oil theft has been achieved with the vessel's interception.
To serve as a strong message and deterrence to anyone engaged in similar criminal actions, the authorities have determined that it is essential to demolish the vessel.
This forceful effort attempts to stop the financial losses caused to Nigeria and legitimate oil sector players while also addressing the negative social and environmental effects of such illegal operations.
The state oil company, NNPC Ltd., reaffirmed its steadfast dedication to putting an end to crude oil theft.
It stated that it would keep up its unwavering efforts to stop this unlawful commerce until it is totally eliminated.
