Blow for Chelsea as Hakim Ziyech move to Saudi Arabia in doubt after medical

Manchester City v Chelsea: Emirates FA Cup Third Round

Hakim Ziyech's proposed move from Chelsea to Al-Nassr is in doubt after a knee problem was identified in his medical with the Saudi Arabian side.

The 30-year-old has struggled to make much of an impression since moving to Stamford Bridge from Ajax in 2020, making just 64 Premier League appearances over three seasons, scoring six league goals.

Injuries have not helped his progress, but form and competition for places have also meant that the Blues are more than happy to let him go this summer after trying and failing to move him on in January.

A loan deal was agreed for the Morocco international to move to Paris Saint-Germain, but administrative issues at Chelsea's end shortly before the deadline meant the move failed.

There are now problems with Ziyech's switch to the Saudi Pro League, with an ongoing knee problem throwing the move into doubt, reports FootMercato.

The issue was identified by PSG in January but they ultimately wanted to go ahead with the loan move anyway, but the medical at Al-Nassr bringing up the problem again is a worry for the player.

The winger's move to Saudi Arabia is not off the table yet, but the injury issue has thrown a spanner in the works as Chelsea look to continue their summer clear-out.

The Blues' squad needed trimming significantly this summer and the process is going well so far, with Kalidou Koulibaly, Mateo Kovacic, Edouard Mendy, Kai Havertz and N'Golo Kante all departing.

The Saudi Pro League has been a popular destination for departing Chelsea stars, with Koulibaly, Kante and Mendy all moving there and Ziyech hoping to follow.

Mason Mount is also set to leave, heading to Manchester United, while a deal is being worked on to take Romelu Lukaku back to Inter Milan either on loan or in a permanent deal.
