Alexis Mac Allister has been given permission by Brighton to undergo a medical at Liverpool, talkSPORT understands.
The Argentine star will undergo his tests today before completing all of the necessary paperwork for a deal on Wednesday.
The deal will be worth £55million after the Reds triggered a release clause in his contract at the AMEX Stadium.
Mac Allister became Liverpool's main midfield target after they opted out of a move for Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham.
Since arriving from Argentinos Juniors in 2019, Mac Allister played 112 games for Brighton, scoring 20 times and assisting nine goals in that time.
Despite only signing a new deal in October, the World Cup winner had a clause inserted into his deal that made negotiations with the Reds much smoother.
The 24-year-old played a pivotal role in helping Brighton to qualify for Europe for the first time in their history after finishing sixth in the Premier League.
Discussing Mac Allister's future along with his in-demand teammates Moises Caicedo, Roberto De Zerbi said: "I think it can be the last game for Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo.
"It is right that they can leave, they can play at a higher level."
