A Kenyan pastor named Paul Makenzi has been arrested for his influence in a fast that led to the starvation and death of church members.
Reports indicate that 39 bodies have been found on Makenzi's property, with more shallow graves still to be uncovered. Four individuals were discovered starving at Makenzi's Good News International Church, bringing the total death toll to 43.
Two children were also killed by their parents to "please God" under Makenzi's influence. Police have requested to keep the pastor in custody as investigations continue.
Makenzi has been arrested twice before in connection with the deaths of children and was released on bail each time. Kenyan politicians are calling for Makenzi to remain in custody this time, citing concerns about the spread of cults in the area.
