Europa League: Ten Hag reveals who to blame for Man Utd's 3-0 defeat to Sevilla

Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag has said that the absent players in the squad cannot be blamed for their 3-0 defeat to Sevilla in the Europa League quarter-final second leg on Thursday.

The Red Devils had thrown away a two-goal lead in the first leg of the quarter-final tie at Old Trafford to draw 2-2.

However, Ten Hag's men were thrashed in Seville and exited the competition.

The Dutchman refused to blame the loss on the absence of Bruno Fernandes, with his team severely lacking creativity.

United were also without the defensive duo of Rafael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.

Ten Hag, speaking to BT Sport, said:

"It's not about them [the absent players], it's about the players on the pitch, they have to perform. I believe in them; I trust them and then they have to show. But today, we were not good enough.

"We were not ready for the game and that cannot be. When you play for Manchester United you have to be ready for every game, especially on this great occasion in a quarter-final in Europe. We have to blame ourselves."
