Former Chelsea winger, Florent Malouda, has urged the club leadership under co-owner Todd Boehly not to sell midfielder N'Golo Kante.
As it stands, Kante will leave Chelsea as a free agent this summer, having not yet penned a new deal with the Blues.
The 31-year-old faces an increasingly uncertain future at the west London club, with his contract set to expire in June.
But Malouda believes Boehly should extend Kante's contract because of his leadership qualities and personality.
"Like with Mount, N'Golo Kante is important to Chelsea for other reasons and that is what he represents to the club, what he gives to the team and the way the fans love him," Florent Malouda told DAZN Bet.
"I think it's necessary to keep him at the club, not only as a player but maybe after his career.
"You can see he has given his health for the club. When he was injured, you could see Chelsea weren't the same. There is also his personality; it is important, he is a role model we need to keep. He is humble and ambitious, he sets an example for the other players."
