Argentina legend, Mario Kempes has said he does not think Lionel Messi can handle a move out of Europe.
According to reports in Europe, the Paris Saint-Germain superstar will be returning to his childhood club Newell's Old Boys.
Messi joined PSG on a free transfer in the summer of 2021, signing a two-year deal with the French capital side after putting an end to his 21-year-long association with Barcelona.
There are now concerns about the 35-year-old's future at PSG as his contract expires at the end of the current season.
Messi was said to be close to signing a new contract extension with PSG, but recent reports suggest that the former Barcelona star is increasingly inclined towards leaving the club.
A return to Barcelona has also been talked about, while a transfer to either the American Major League Soccer or Saudi Arabia cannot be ruled out.
Kempes, though, is of the view that a return to South America might not be a good idea for Messi.
He told TNT Sports,
"I don't know if [Messi] would withstand the pressure. He's used to Europe; the people are different. But in Argentina, it would be crazy."
