Joao Cancelo has rubbished rumours that a training ground bust-up with Pep Guardiola led to him joining Bayern Munich on loan.

The 28-year-old has linked up with the Bundesliga leaders until the end of the season, with the German side having a £61.5million option to buy clause.

Cancelo failed to feature in any of Manchester City's last three games in all competitions after losing his place in the team due to the emergence of Rico Lewis.

Meanwhile Kyle Walker and Nathan Ake have also preferred on both side's of the defence ahead of the Portugal international.

The Daily Mail have claimed that Cancelo and Guardiola were involved in a heated exchange after the ex-Juventus man learned he wouldn't be starting in the FA Cup against Arsenal.

It was stated that Cancelo reacted angrily towards the Spanish boss, with their relationship reaching breaking point as a result.

But the player has dismissed any bad beef between the two, insisting he decided to depart the Etihad in search of regular game time.

Commenting on his switch in his press conference unveiling, Cancelo said: "I've not had much game time in the past few weeks, which influenced my decision.

"It has nothing to do with my relationship with Pep.

"I decided to leave for a new adventure. I'm happy here, it's a big club, with a lot of history."

Though Cancelo revealed he didn't speak to Guardiola prior to making the move to the Allianz Arena.

He remarked: "I didn't talk to the manager about a possible transfer to Bayern because this all happened so suddenly.

"There was an offer and I accepted. Yes, I'm ready to play, I'm looking forward, looking forward to playing in this shirt."

Cancelo has taken to social media where he posted a video to City's fans in what looked to be a heartfelt farewell.

Commenting on his switch, Cancelo stated: "In these five months I want to have a clear head, express my football and help the team.

"It's not a farewell tone, my contract is on loan, for now. City gave me a lot and I wanted to give the fans the affection and the respect they have always shown me.

"I feel like I was an elite professional while I was there, I did everything I could, which was best for me and the club.

"I only wish Manchester City the best now and in the future, but I'm focused on Bayern. I'm going to give my all in these 5 months to achieve our collective goals."
