Brazilian player, Alves was arrested and detained on Friday, with the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain player accused of sexual assault.
Barcelona head coach, Xavi Hernandez, was "in a state of shock" following news of the club's legend Dani Alves being arrested on suspicion of carrying out a sexual assault.
Alves was arrested on Friday in Barcelona after it was alleged he assaulted a woman in a nightclub bathroom.
The Brazilian denied committing the offence when he spoke to Spanish broadcaster Antena 3 earlier this month.
The 39-year-old, who has also played for Juventus, Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain, gave a statement to the Mossos d'Esquadra police force on Friday before the public prosecutor's office requested that he should be detained and not granted bail.
The right-back has been kept in prison while investigations continue, and his current contract with Mexican club Pumas UNAM has been terminated.
Reacting to the development, Xavi, a former Barcelona team-mate of Alves, said at his pre-match press conference on Saturday ahead of Barca's LaLiga tie with Getafe on Sunday, Xavi said: "It's difficult to comment on a situation like this.
"I'm surprised, shocked, in a state of shock.
"It's a matter of justice. Justice will dictate whatever."
