Cristiano Ronaldo wanted to return to Real Madrid but the call from the current Champions League holders never came.
The 37-year-old has now completed his move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr.
But Marca reports Ronaldo wanted a return to the Bernabeu after leaving Manchester United by mutual consent in November.
However, there was little to no interest on the side of the club, forcing Ronaldo to consider other offers.
During his stint at Madrid, Ronaldo was prolific, scoring 451 goals in all competitions.
He will now continue his playing career outside Europe with Al Nassr, where he will be earning a reported £173m per year.
