Manchester United have agreed a 'fee in principle' with Juventus to sign Adrien Rabiot.

The 27-year-old has emerged as a shock target for the Red Devils following their failure to get a deal for Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong over the line.

The France international is out of favour in Turin and he's available, given he has just 12 months left on his contract with the Old Lady.

Though United haven't given up hope of signing De Jong, they are wary of ending the window without reinforcements in midfield.

And the Manchester Evening News say a deal has now been agreed with Juventus to sign the former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder.

However, the player is yet to agree peronal terms over a move to the Theatre of Dreams and the report says his mother - who is Rabiot's agent - is a 'stumbling block' to the deal.

Rabiot will likely seek an increase on his Juventus salary to join United, as he's wary that this will be his final big contract.

United have long tracked Rabiot and hoped to do a deal for the Frenchman in 2019, only to see a failure to qualify for the Champions League scupper their chances.

Rabiot's stock has fallen since, though his performances for Juventus last season were improved.

Veronique, Rabiot's mother, is renowned for her fiery nature and once confronted Laurent Blanc in the car-park of Paris Saint-Germain's stadium to question his decisions.
