Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez asked the club's board to let him leave during a showdown meeting on Monday, with Manchester United and Arsenal battling it out to sign the Argentina defender.
The 24-year-old made it clear to the Dutch giants during talks in the last 24 hours that he wants to move to the Premier League, with Martinez open to joining either the Gunners or the Red Devils.
Though Martinez's preference would be a reunion with Erik ten Hag, he's open to moving to the Emirates and it's now down to either side to agree a fee with Ajax.
Ajax have been holding out for around £45m and have so far rejected two bids from Arsenal, the last of which was around £34m.
But the Athletic say Martinez has now taken matters into his own hands by trying to force Ajax's hand by requesting to leave the club for a second time.
United have accelerated talks with Ajax in recent days after learning that Arsenal had made a third bid for the defender.
The defender has seven caps for Argentina and has come on leaps and bounds under Ten Hag in the last two years.
