Matthijs de Ligt says 'yes' to Chelsea transfer as Blues plot £65m bid

Chelsea hope to complete a £65million move for Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt after the Dutchman signalled his desire to move to Stamford Bridge.

Thomas Tuchel has identified the Netherlands international as his preferred candidate to plug the gaping hole in Chelsea's backline following the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

The 22-year-old joined Juventus in 2019 for a fee of around £75m after guiding Ajax to the semi-finals of the Champions League during a two-year stint as club captain.

But De Ligt's stock has plummeted during his time in Turin and the Serie A giants are open to selling.

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is keen to kickstart his era at the club with a number of statement signings and the Mail claim Chelsea will test Juventus' resolve with a £65m bid for De Ligt this week.

The Dutchman is said to be keen on moving to west London and personal terms would not be an issue.

Juventus want to recoup the £75m they paid for De Ligt but they may sell for less given their interest in Napoli ace Kalidou Koulibaly.

Chelsea hope to complete the £45m signing of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City, while they haven't given up hope of convincing Raphinha to join despite interest from Barcelona.
