At least 30 travellers were killed in an auto crash along Zaria-Kano Expressway, Hawan Mai Mashi in Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The accident, which occurred around 5.30 pm on Thursday, July 21, 2022, left several others with injuries.
The three vehicles involved in the accident went up in flames immediately after the collision. The passengers killed were burnt beyond recognition.
Assistant Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, in charge of Zaria Zone, Abdurahman Yakasai, who confirmed the development, said the auto crash involving two Toyota 18-Seater buses and a Volkswagen Golf, was caused by speeding and dangerous overtaking.
"Those that sustained injuries have been rushed to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika Zaria by our men, while the remains of the deceased were also evacuated and deposited at the hospital morgue," he said.
Yakasai said the FRSC had yet to ascertain the number plates of the vehicles because they were burnt to ashes, adding that efforts were being made to obtain the manifest and details of the victims.
