Cristiano Ronaldo could leave Man United for rivals Chelsea as sensational talks between Blues' owner Todd Boehly and super agent are revealed

Cristiano Ronaldo could be set to stun the football world in back-to-back summers by leaving Manchester United for rivals Chelsea.

The Portuguese superstar only returned to Old Trafford last year in a £12.85million move from Juventus, and despite United's struggles, he still kept scoring.

The Red Devils had a disappointing campaign under the stewardship of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick, recording their worst-ever Premier League points haul.

Finishing sixth in the league, Ronaldo was a rare bright spark for United, finishing as their top scorer with 24 goals in 38 games.

And that appears to have been enough to interest new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly, who has discussed the possibility of signing the player with his agent Jorge Mendes.

That's according to The Athletic, who claim the Blues' new owner held a meeting with Mendes in Portugal last week with a potential move for Ronaldo discussed.

New United manager Erik ten Hag has insisted he plans to utilise Ronaldo in the coming season, but the 37-year-old is seen as unsuitable for his high-pressing, high-intensity brand of football.

Ronaldo has been linked to German giants Bayern Munich in recent days, but a move to Stamford Bridge may be more plausible with just 12 months left on his current contract.
