William Troost-Ekong has revealed that the Super Eagles planned to do something special before the game against Guinea Bissau on Wednesday.
The Super Eagles beat Guinea Bissau 2-0 to take all nine points from the Group D of the tournament in Cameroon
Nigeria had beaten Egypt 1-0 and Sudan 3-1 before brushing aside Guinea Bissau 2-0 on Wednesday, with goals from Sadiq Umar and Troost-Ekong himself.
The 28-year-old was named Man of the Match on Wednesday after his outstanding display against Gissau, who left the competition without winning a single game.
"First and foremost I am very happy for the team," Troost-Ekong told reporters after the game.
"We said before the game we wanted to do something special, we wanted to get three out of three wins and to really make a statement on the tournament so far.
"I'm really proud of the boys, I think everybody performed exceptionally well. It wasn't easy with eight changes and all the boys who came in, I think they showed they deserve to play as well and that's probably the biggest message from today's game, so I'm very content".
