Man United make first contact with Premier League manager, willing to meet release clause

Manchester United's hierarchy have made contact with Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers, according to The Sun.

Rodgers is one of the managers Manchester United have reportedly identified as the replacement for sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Solskjaer was dismissed on Saturday after he led the former Premier League champions to a disappointing 4-1 defeat to lowly Watford.

The Sun reports that the Man United hierarchy are prepared to pay Rodgers' release clause.

Solskjaer left United 12 points adrift of league leaders Chelsea and that finally prompted United's board to swing the axe on Solskjaer.

First-team coach Michael Carrick has since been placed in charge on a temporary basis until a new manager is appointed.

Names such as Mauricio Pochettino of PSG, Ajax's Erik ten Hag and former Real Madrid boss, Zinedine Zidane have all been mentioned as possible replacements for Solskjaer.

The newspaper further reported that Rodgers is willing to quit the King Power Stadium mid-season should he be offered the Old Trafford hot-seat and contact has already been made.

Rodgers has a clause in his contract which allows him to speak to certain Champions League clubs.
