This is a setback - Pinnick reacts to Nigeria's loss to CAR

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has expressed his shock at the 1-0 defeat to the Central African Republic (CAR) in a World Cup qualifying match on Thursday.

Pinnick described it as a setback, but insists the Super Eagles will exact revenge in the reverse fixure this weekend.

Gernot Rohr's men lost to a team 90 spots below them in the FIFA rankings.

It was also Nigeria's first defeat on home soil in a World Cup qualifier in 40 years.

In a statement, Pinnick said: "This result has been a huge shock, especially after the NFF provided everything necessary to make the team comfortable and focused on the task at hand, even going the extra mile in a number of areas.

"This is a setback, which can be quickly reversed, and the Nigerian Spirit is what we will take to Cameroon. The NFF is backing the team to retain a strong hold on the group and qualify to the knockout phase."

CAR host Nigeria on Sunday in Douala.
