LaLiga: Why Espanyol beat Real Madrid - Ancelotti

Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti, has said that Espanyol defeated his team 2-1 in a LaLiga clash on Sunday because his players played "badly".

Ancelotti explained that Real Madrid lacked balance and was not well-positioned against Espanyol during the encounter.

Real Madrid suffered a second straight defeat against Espanyol following their 2-1 midweek loss at the Santiago Bernabeu to Champions League minnows Sheriff Tiraspol.

Goals from Raul de Tomas and Aleix Vidal gave Espanyol all three points against Ancelotti's side.

Karim Benzema did score a goal for the visitors at Cornellà-El Prat.

Speaking after the game, Ancelotti said at his post-match press conference: "We played badly, nothing much else I can say.

"When we conceded, we became confused on the pitch. I have to be honest - [it was the] worst game of (the) season.

"Today's defeat was not an accident, we deserved to lose. We are worried, this club is not used to back to back defeats, we have to remedy this and fix the errors we made again today.

"Our plan was pretty clear, but the team was disorganised, not well positioned, very individual - these are things we need to fix. I spoke with the players who agreed.

"I thought Alaba at full-back could help in attack, but we lacked balance on that side of the pitch, the midfield did not cover, we were not well-positioned."
