Chelsea captain, Cesar Azpilicueta, has revealed that Manchester City defeated the Blues 1-0 at Stamford Bridge because Pep Guardiola's men were at their best level.
Azpilicueta explained that Chelsea could not keep the ball and made so many mistakes against Man City during the encounter.
A second-half goal from Gabriel Jesus ensured the Premier League champions defeated Thomas Tuchel's side at Stamford Bridge.
"It was not our best performance," Azpilicueta was quoted by Daily Mail as saying at his post-match press conference.
"Especially in the first half, it was hard to get out. We didn't create chances and lost the ball too easily. After the goal, we had a good reaction, but it was not enough to get something from the game.
"They were at their best level. We couldn't keep the ball as we like to do. We made so many mistakes, ones that we normally don't make."
Chelsea's next game is against Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday.
