Manchester United have sent a special request to the Premier League to allow Cristiano Ronaldo to wear the No. 7 shirt at the club, The Times reports.
The club requested special dispensation from the league management after the Portuguese completed his move back to Old Trafford on Tuesday.
The Portugal international has made the No.7 shirt his own and wore the famous shirt during his first spell at the Theatre of Dreams, at Real Madrid (following the departure of legendary captain, Raul).
Edinson Cavani currently wears the shirt and may easily return it to Ronaldo since the no.21 shirt is available following Daniel James' departure to Leeds.
Cavani wears the same number for his national team, Uruguay.
The Times claims that United have already applied for special dispensation in order to make the move possible.
United have accumulated seven points from their first three matches, beating Wolves and Leeds in between a draw against Southampton.
