Arsenal agree £25m deal to sell midfielder to EPL rivals ahead of Brentford clash

Arsenal have struck a £25m deal with Newcastle to sell midfielder, Joe Willock, according to Daily Mail.

Willock is yet to agree personal terms, but the Magpies will push to finalize the transfer in time for their opening fixture of the new season against West Ham.

The 21-year-old was left out of the Gunners' final pre-season friendly at Tottenham Hotspur, with manager Mikel Arteta saying: "We will explain the reasons when we can."

Willock became Newcastle's number-one target this summer, following a successful loan spell in the second half of last season.

During his short stint at St James' Park, he scored eight goals in 14 appearances.

He also set a new record by becoming the youngest player to score in seven consecutive games.

Willock's departure could boost Arsenal's chances of signing James Maddison from Leicester City. But that deal will not be completed, before Arteta's men open the 2021/2022 season away to Brentford on Friday.
