Didier Drogba has seemingly confirmed Romelu Lukaku's return to Chelsea.
Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has seemingly confirmed Romelu Lukaku's return to the club with a revealing post on Twitter.
Lukaku is set to sign for the Blues afterInter Milan reportedly reluctantly accepted a £97.5m offer amid their ongoing financial difficulties.
It is understood that the Belgium international will complete his medical early next week before signing a five-year deal with the Champions League holders and and official announcement appears imminent, judging by Drogba's social media activity.
'He's coming home @RomeluLukaku9 @ChelseaFC,' Drogba wrote on Instagram and followed that by posting a tick emoji minutes later.
Chelsea have been chasing a striker throughout the summer with Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland and Lukaku their top targets. But with Haaland happy to stay in Germany for now, the Belgian emerged as the No.1 choice.
Lukaku spent three seasons at Stamford Bridge at the start of his career but only made 15 appearances for the club before heading to Everton.
Since then he has become one of the best strikers in Europe, having scored 87 goals in 166 matches for Everton, 42 goals in 96 games for Manchester United and 64 goals in 95 appearances for Inter.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was asked about the club's links to Lukaku earlier this week, but wasn't drawn on the speculation.
'I will not talk about players who don't play in my squad. Romelu Lukaku is a fantastic player but he's a player from Inter and with all due respect, I will not talk about him in this situation,' he said.
The club are also reportedly hopeful of selling Tammy Abraham to free up space for Lukaku, with Arsenal among the clubs interested in a move for the Englishman.
