Thiago Silva has extended his contract with Chelsea for another season.
The 36-year-old joined Chelsea on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain last August and was quick to make an impact after moving to Stamford Bridge.
Silva had initially signed a one-year contract with Chelsea with the option for an additional season.
And following the club's success in the Champions League under Thomas Tuchel, the Brazil international has opted to extend his stay in west London.
'When we brought Thiago Silva in last summer, we knew we were adding a world-class player to the squad,' Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia told the club's official website.
'Thiago has duly shown everyone at Chelsea his immense quality throughout this season, and he has had a huge influence on and off the pitch for us.
'We said when he signed that we hoped Thiago would add new trophies to his impressive list of honours, and he has done just that with our success in the Champions League this weekend. We now hope that he carries on in exactly the same fashion in the coming year.'
Speaking after Chelsea beat Manchester City in the Champions League final last Saturday, Silva also paid tribute to Frank Lampard, who was sacked and replaced by Tuchel in January.
'It was special, it was my first year here,' said the defender.
