Antonio Rudiger has taken to social media to apologise for the collision which injured Kevin De Bruyne in Chelsea's 1-0 Champions League final win over Manchester City.
Kai Havertz netted the only goal of the game in the first half when he took the ball round Ederson and finished into an empty net.
As the showpiece in Porto approach the hour mark, City midfielder De Bruyne collided with Rudiger and looked visibly distraught when he was forced off the pitch.
Belgium international De Bruyne revealed the extent of his facial injuries on Sunday morning after leaving hospital.
'Hi guys just got back from the hospital,' he wrote on Twitter. 'My diagnosis is Acute nose bone fracture and left orbital fracture [in the eye socket]. I feel okay now.
'Still disappointed about yesterday obviously but we will be back.'
And in a post on Twitter later on Sunday, Rudiger said sorry to the midfielder and sent his well wishes over his recovery.
'I'm really sorry for @DeBruyneKev's injury,' the Blues centre-back said.
'Of course this was not intentional from me - I've already been in touch with Kevin personally and I really wish him a speedy recovery & hope we can see him back on the pitch very soon again.'
With Belgium taking on Russia in their opening Euro 2020 group game on June 12, De Bruyne will be hoping to recover in time.
Rudiger was shown a yellow card for the cynical block, but Belgium boss Roberto Martinez believes the punishment should've been harsher.
'For me, Rudiger is very, very fortunate,' said Martinez. 'When you look at the replay, there's no clash of heads.
'He's properly leaving the shoulder against Kevin. He seems concussed and we will see the state of that.
'But that leaves a sour taste, because Rudiger's holding his head, it's almost that he wants to show that he's hiding something. For me, it was excessive force and it was reckless. And it should have been a red card.'
