New Roma manager, Jose Mourinho, has given the club the name of the player to sign this summer transfer window.
Recall that Mourinho agreed to a three-year contract with Roma on Tuesday.
The 58-year-old Portuguese will remain at Roma until the 2024 season.
Football Italia said Manchester United's Nemanja Matic is one of the key names that Mourinho has given the Roma board as he starts to draw up transfer plans ahead of next season.
Matic has played twice under Mourinho at Chelsea and Manchester United in the past.
The Serbian international is trusted by Mourinho and is said to be more suited to Italian Serie A, where his tactical awareness and composure on the ball will be more appreciated.
His current contract at Man United expires in 2023.
Speaking on a possible reunion with Mourinho, Matic told Omnisport last year: "As I know, you never know what's going to happen in life.
"At the moment, I am a Manchester United player and very focused on my job, and in the future, we will see what's going to happen."
