Former Spain international, Santi Cazorla, is convinced Mikel Arteta is the right manager to get Arsenal back to their best regardless of what happens when they face Villarreal in the Europa League semi-final second leg tie on Thursday at Emirates.
Arteta's side had lost 2-1 against Villarreal in the first-leg last Thursday in Spain.
Arsenal are currently in the ninth position on the Premier League table with 49 points from 34 games.
Speaking with UEFA, Cazorla gave his full support to old teammate Arteta despite the Gunners often struggling this season.
He said, "I think he's [Mikel Arteta] the right man to take the club forward.
"It's difficult to follow a period like Arsene Wenger's - the club has to adapt to another kind of football, another philosophy, another vision of football.
"He's got a clear idea of how he wants his team to play, they are in the semi-finals, and they did well in the FA Cup [last season].
"They have been pretty inconsistent, but you have got to give him time, and I think they are convinced that Mikel can get a lot out of the squad and achieve big things.
"I'm great friends with him, and whatever good happens to him and the club, I would be happy for them because I'm a Gunner."
