Tottenham Hotspur manager, Jose Mourinho has paused his press conference to pay tribute to Prince Philip following the Duke of Edinburgh’s death aged 99.
A statement from Buckingham Palace confirmed that ‘His Royal Highness passed away peacefully on Friday morning at Windsor Castle’.
The news broke shortly before Mourinho held a press conference ahead of this weekend’s game against Manchester United.
“I am sorry, I will answer your question, but I am just sorry because I just read some sad news about Prince Philip. So I would like to express my condolences to the Royal Family.
“To be very honest, I have a deep, deep, deep respect for the Royal Family.
“So all my condolences. And I believe it is not just this country that is going to be sharing this feeling, even though I’m not English.
“I know that many like myself have the utmost respect. So I’m sorry to stop [the press conference],” Mourinho said after checking his phone.
