Ghanaian forward, Emmanuel Gyasi has narrated his encounter with ‘idol’ Cristiano Ronaldo.
He said he was shocked when he discovered that Ronaldo was waiting for him in the dressing room to give him his (Ronaldo) shirt.
Gyasi, who plays with Serie A side, Spezia and featured in both legs of his side’s league matches with Juventus, noted that Ronaldo has always been his role model.
“For me, he is an idol and this too is a dream that came true. He is my idol and I dreamt of playing on the same field with him one day. I never thought of it happening so soon,” he told Joy Sport’s Gary Al-Smith
The Ghanaian said that his heart was broken after his first encounter with Ronaldo, when he asked for the Portugal captain’s shirt.
“I remember in the first game, I went to him and spoke with him, but unfortunately he couldn’t give me the jersey,” he added.
But surprisingly to him, Ronaldo did not forget him but waited till reverse fixture in Turin and approached him much to his bewilderment.
“In the second game before we started the game, he just came to me and asked Gyasi, how are you? I was shocked, he remembered me! I was shocked because how can a whole Cristiano Ronaldo remember me because it has been a long time. Home and away games have a long time gap between them, so maybe he could forget that he promised a jersey.
“When he came and he hugged me, and asked how I was doing, I was very happy. Very very happy,” he said.
Gyasi said he never expected Ronaldo to wait for him in the dressing room because the Portugal star was obviously nervous because the first half ended 0-0 with the former Real Madrid frontman hitting the cross bar.
The Ghanaian international said he saw how Ronaldo ran into the tunnel after the first half of the match and drew the conclusion that he was not going to get the jersey from the 5 times Ballon d’Or winner “but I saw him waiting for me in my dressing room and I was shocked.
“After the game, we met in the dressing room and had a chat. He’s a very great player and a great person.”
Cristiano joined Juventus in 2018 and has established himself as the best goalscorer in Italy helping the Old Lady to win the Serie A title back to back.
The 27-year-old Italy-born Emmanual Gyasi received his first call up to the Ghanaian national team for the last two African Cup of Nations games.
