Chelsea have confirmed the appointment of Thomas Tuchel as their new manager.

The German coach succeeds Blues legend Frank Lampard, who was sacked on Monday following a run of only two wins from the last eight Premier League matches.

Tuchel worked alongside Thiago Silva at PSG but was sacked by the French giants last month

Tuchel's appointment sees him return to management around a month after being sacked by Paris Saint-Germain.

He won two Ligue 1 titles with PSG and also guided them to the 2020 Champions League final, which they narrowly lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia said: "It is never easy to change Head Coach in the middle of the season but we are very happy to secure one of Europe's best coaches in Thomas Tuchel.

"There is still much to play for and much to achieve, this season and beyond. We welcome Thomas to the club."

Tuchel will take his first training session on Tuesday evening and will be in the dugout for Wednesday's Premier League game against Wolves - live on talkSPORT.

It is hoped Tuchel will get the best out of German compatriots Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, who cost a combined £116million last summer but have struggled in west London.

Werner has scored just once in his last 16 games, while Havertz failed to hold down a regular starting place under Lampard.

Chelsea are currently ninth in the Premier League, 11 points behind leaders Manchester United at the halfway point.

The Blues will be looking to get back to winning ways when they host Wolves on Wednesday night.
