Ex-Liverpool captain, Jamie Carragher, has given two reasons his former team will not battle to sign Lionel Messi this summer.
Although he admits he would love to see Messi in the Premier League, he says the reigning champions "won't go anywhere near" him.
"I don't think Liverpool will go anywhere near that situation. Financially, number one, but also because of the way Liverpool play. City are more technical and that would suit Messi a bit more.
"But how you get that deal across the line with the figures involved, I'm not too sure. It's mind-boggling," Carragher told Sky Sports.
Messi, 33, looks set to leave Barcelona after handing in a transfer request this week.
The Argentina superstar has scored 634 goals in 731 appearances for the Spanish club.
