However, the Blues then increase their lead through Tammy Abraham's strike in the 71 minutes before Christian Benteke scored for the host one minute later as Frank Lampard's side grabbed all three points at Selhurst Park.
The win over Crystal Palace means Lampard's men are now in the third position on the Premier League table with 60 points from 34 games.
The West London club are behind Manchester City and Liverpool on the log.
Chelsea's next fixture is against Sheffield United on Saturday.
