Man City vs Liverpool: Venue for potential EPL title decider confirmed

The Etihad has been confirmed as the venue for Manchester City's Premier League clash against Liverpool next week.

Although the game is viewed as a potential title decider, the Reds travel for the game as champions, if City fails to win at Chelsea tonight.

But if Pep Guardiola's men get maximum points, Liverpool will have to win their first title in 30 years, at the home of their closest rivals.

Police had questioned whether the game should be played at a neutral venue, amid worries that fans of both clubs could gather outside the stadium.

But Manchester City Council has confirmed that its Safety Advisory Group has made no objections with regards to the venue.

"The Council's Safety Advisory Group (SAG) for the Etihad Stadium met this morning to review the upcoming fixture between Manchester City FC and Liverpool FC.

"Following the most recent round of Premier League fixtures which have all taken place behind closed doors, the SAG has signalled it has no objections to the above fixture taking place at the Etihad Stadium as planned at 8.15pm, Thursday, July 2.

"As with all other Premier League matches this fixture will take place behind closed doors, with no fans present," the statement read.
