Spanish striker Diego Costa on Sunday, June 14, scored for Atletico Madrid in their 1-1 La Liga draw against Athletic Bilbao in which he paid tribute to Vrginia Torrecilla.
Virginia Torrecilla currently plays for Atletico Madrid women's team and she is currently recuperating after having brain surgery in last month in Spain.
The medical treatment was said to have been successful and Diego Costa was happy with the fact that Virginia Torrecilla will soon resume training.
After scoring for Atletico Madrid, Diego Costa held her Atletico shirt aloft on the sidelines in a display of solidarity.
His gesture made many fans happy in which they praised Diego Costa for holding Torrecilla's shirt on the pitch.
Virginia Torrecilla herself saw the gesture from Diego Costa and took to social media to thank th former Chelsea striker describing him as an amazing person.
Before Virginia was asked to go for surgery, she had complained many times of continuous headache which made medical personnel to take her to surgical room.
She has 63 caps for Spain, including four appearances at the 2019 World Cup, and previously played for Barcelona and Montpellier.
Costa's goal was his first for Atletico since September, levelling the score two minutes after Iker Muniain's opener for Bilbao.
Atletico Madrid are currently occupying sixth position on the Spanish La Liga table with hopes of them finishing among the top four.
