Champions League remaining matches set to be played in 1 venue which would benefit Ronaldo

Champions League football may be concluded in Portugal in a mini-tournament as Lisbon have made a bid to host the remaining matches, reports in Germany claim.

The elite competition has 17 matches left as the round of 16 matches are yet to be concluded before the global pandemic.

Istanbul was scheduled to host the finals on May 30, 2020, before the three months lockdown that kept all footballing activities shutdown.

Europe's football governing body Uefa were believed to be considering the remaining matches to be played behind closed doors in every three days in the month of August.

Turkish authorities are reportedly doing all they can to pay for the remaining Champions League matches to be played without fans, but Germans new outlet Bild claim Lisbon are leading the race to become new hosts.

Uefa hope to resume the Champions League and Europa League knockout stages on August 7, 2020, as games would then be played twice a week.

The semi-finals will be held between August 18 and 22, 2020, before the final is hosted on August 29.

The next Champions League season would then start in September after a short break as current champions Liverpool have been knocked out of the competition by Atletico Madrid in the last 16.

The likes of Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig, Atleticoand Atlanta have made it through to the quarter-finals with the remaining five spots still up for grabs.
