Basketball icon Lebron James has taken a step further in his charity foundation as he partnered with Kent State University to provide free tuition fee for eligible students for four years.
The LA Lakers star has a foundation called the Lebrone James Family Foundation which will provide free room and board for one year.
"The I PROMISE program is built on the 'earned, not given' philosophy," said Michele Campbell, executive director of the LeBron James Family Foundation.
"We are so excited that our students that have worked incredibly hard have earned even more life-changing opportunities to grow and excel."
193 students will be eligible for the Kent State University offer as college freshman in the 2021-22 academic session.
To qualify for the free tuition, students must secure admission in the university fill the required form and complete the stipulated community service each semester.
After these students get the funds, they will be entitles to free accommodation and meals in their first year.
Students must have good results to remain eligible for the free tuition fee per year and must get the minimum number of required credit hours annually.
The university is also organizing a fundraising to help students with additional expenses which involves buying of books.
"We are so pleased to take our partnership with the LeBron James Family Foundation to this next level and welcome these students fully into the Kent State family," Kent State President Todd Diacon said: "Kent State looks forward to the time when our campus is teeming with I PROMISE students."
