Thibaut Courtois named LaLiga Player of the Month as Kepa Arrizabalaga struggles for form at Chelsea

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was named LaLiga's Player of the Month for January.

The Belgian conceded just one goal in the entire month and became the first Real player to win the award all season - despite Zinedine Zidane's side topping the table.

He is also the first goalkeeper to receive the accolade since 2013/14, when Keylor Navas won it whilst playing for Levante.

Courtois moved to the Bernabeu from Chelsea in August 2018, having been at Stamford Bridge since 2011.

He initially struggled in the Spanish capital but has improved hugely this term and Real Madrid are currently top of LaLiga, three points ahead of rivals Barcelona.

Kepa Arrizabalaga was brought to Chelsea as Courtois' replacement, arriving from Athletic Bilbao for £71million - a world-record fee for a keeper.

The Spaniard made a decent start to life at Chelsea but caused controversy when he defied then-Blues manager Maurizio Sarri's orders by refusing to be substituted during last season's Carabao Cup final against Manchester City, which Chelsea went on to lose on penalties.

Kepa has consistently struggled for form in 2019/20 and currently has the worst save percentage of any regular Premier League goalkeeper this season.

He has since lost his place in the first-team, with Willy Caballero starting Chelsea's last outing, a draw at Leicester, on February 1.

It is also understood Blues boss Frank Lampard has ran out of patience with Kepa and wants to sell the player this summer.
