Arsenal finally announce top-rated EPL manager as No.1 target to permanently replace Emery

Mikel Arteta has reportedly emerged Arsenal's top choice candidate to take over as club boss permanently.

Arsenal are currently in search of a new manager following the axing of Unai Emery at the end of November.

Emery's departure saw Freddie Ljungberg take over on interim basis, but the Swede has failed to steady the club's malaise.

Ljungberg's first game in charge finished in a 2-2 draw away at Norwich, before losing 2-1 at home to Brighton in midweek.

Despite Arsenal chiefs insisting they will remain calm as they search for a permanent successor, reports in the UK contend the club could be forced to speed up if Ljungberg's struggles continue.

And according to a Metro UK report citing The Telegraph, the Gunners hierarchy now favour Arteta to take over should they be rushed into making an appointment before the end of the season.

Be that as it may, though, Arteta will be subjected into an 'Apprentice-style' interview grilling before landing the Emirates hot-seat.

The move is reportedly aimed at the club ensuring that they are getting the right man for the lucrative job

Meanwhile, ex-Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, Max Allegri and Niko Kovac are the other managers in the frame to succeed Emery.
