Mesut Ozil could be named captain of Arsenal ahead of the round of 16 Carabao Cup clash with Liverpool in mid-week.
Unai Emery opened up that he held talks with the out-of-favour German midfielder after Granit Xhaka's fall out with the fans during the Gunners draw with Crystal Palace.
Ozil has only made two appearances for the north London club this term but will be given the opportunity to lead the team against Jurgen Klopp's side.
The Gunners get the chance to bounce back from their Crystal Palace nightmare when they take on Jurgen Klopp's side in their round of 16 clash.
In a press brief, Emery revealed he had held talks with the former German international.
"That conversation this morning was because I wanted to listen about how he was thinking now to help us tomorrow.
"It was a very good conversation. Tomorrow he is in the group.
"We need his quality, his skill. We need his consistency. We need his positive mentality. Then we need him to help us on the pitch.
"I want now like in the pre-season, like a month ago, for him to help us on the pitch," Emery said.
The former Paris Saint-German manager was then asked if whether Ozil could get the captain's armband when they face Liverpool.
The Spaniard replied: "It depends. He could be yes."
