Liverpool's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain desperate for regular games after recover from nightmare injury

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is back to fitness and playing again for Liverpool, but he still feels he has one more thing to do to complete his recovery from his injury nightmare.

The midfielder missed almost the entirety of last season after injuring knee ligaments in April 2018 in the Champions League semi-final against Roma.

He managed just two substitute appearances in the Premier League last season but he has already bettered that in the current campaign with one league start and two appearances from the bench.

The 26-year-old made his international return at the weekend when he came on for England against Bulgaria in a Euro 2020 qualifier at Wembley.

The former Arsenal man is pleased with his level of fitness and his displays, but recognises that he needs a run of matches in the Reds first team to truly return to his best form.

'I feel like I can really perform at a good level at the minute,' Oxlade-Chamberlain told Premier League Productions.

'The one thing I haven't done is string matches together. I haven't had that chance yet so that's sort of the next step for me, to play and recover and be able to play and play again all in the same week and keep going from strength to strength. That's the one thing I haven't really ticked off, but I feel like I'm in a position to do that.

'I feel good, I feel strong, I've been training since the back end of last season and playing so I'm not short of those technical things you get with playing a lot.

'So it'll be more the physical, being able to play and keep playing, because to play at the level is one thing but to churn three of them a week at this level is what the body has to get used to.

'That's the next thing, but where I'm at right now I feel confident to be able to get out there and do what I do.'

Chamberlain will be back in action with Liverpool on Saturday when the Reds take on Newcastle in the Premier League, however, he has plenty of competition for places in central midfield.

Fabinho, Georginio Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson and James Milner are all competing with the Ox for three spots in midfield, as will Naby Keita when he returns from injury in the near future.
