Transfer: Ian Wright reveals striker he asked Arsenal to buy

Ex-Arsenal striker, Ian Wright, has revealed that he asked his former boss at the club, Arsene Wenger, to sign Benni McCarthy.

Wright stated this while addressing the media, following his session with Premier Soccer League (PSL) strikers.

According to him, McCarthy, who is now the head coach of Cape Town City, was one of the best finishers he had seen at the time.

"I could talk about Benni McCarthy. Benni McCarthy was somebody that when I left Arsenal, I said to Arsene, 'get Benni McCarthy' because he is one of the best finishers I've seen in and around that time," Wright said.

Wright spent seven years with Arsenal and became their record scorer with 221 goals, a feat that was overtaken by Thierry Henry.
